High Commissioner



H.E. Mr. Masudur Rahman

Masudur Rahman assumed charge of the High Commissioner at the High Commission of Bangladesh to Nigeria on 10 March, 2021. He studied electrical and electronics engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering & Technology between September 1988 and December 1995. He is married and has two children. His hobbies are literature, arts, music and books.

He joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as a career Bangladesh Foreign Service Officer on 22 February 1998. He worked at the West and Central Asia Wing, Consular and Protocol Wing during his early tenure as Assistant Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He began his diplomatic career in Moscow, as Third Secretary and Second Secondary to be followed with his next assignment in Bahrain as First Secretary and Counsellor during February 2001 till October 2007. From Bahrain he came back to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and joined as the Director for America and Pacific Wing as well as later on worked as the Director for Foreign Secretary’s Office between November 2007 and October 2009. Meanwhile, he undertook the Advanced Security Studies, a course intended for foreign diplomats, bureaucrats and senior military officials at the Asia Pacific Center for Security Studies briefly known as APCSS, Hawaii from January to March 2009. It was his Japanese language training course at Japan Foundation Osaka from October 1999 to June 2000 and his tenure at the Bangladesh Embassy in Tokyo as Counsellor from November 2009 till July 2013 that exposed him in the larger East Asian region. From Tokyo he moved on again to his core area of interest-the Middle East.He worked as the Consul General of Bangladesh in Dubai and Northern Emirates from July 2013 to October 2015 overseeing trade, investment, expatriate’s welfare and public diplomacy. Upon transfer to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he joined as the Director General of West and Central Asia, Africa during the period November 2015 to December 2017. Taking a break from diplomacy, he undertook the National Defense College course conducted for senior military officials of Bangladesh and foreign countries in the year 2018. He simultaneously completed two post graduate degrees in Master of Strategy and Development Studies from the Bangladesh University of Professionals and Master of Business Administration from the Northern University of Bangladesh between January 2018 and July 2019. Meanwhile he returned back to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from the National Defense College of Bangladesh and joined as the Director General of the External Publicity and ICT Wing of the Ministry in January 2019. He assumed the charge of Deputy Chief of Mission & Minister at Bangladesh Embassy Beijing on 9 October 2019 and left the Mission to join as High Commissioner of Bangladesh to Nigeria.
